Stacy Alan never expected her life to revolve around magic. This 2006 graduate of ���Ĵ�ý, who uses the stage name “Alan” and identifies herself a mentalist, has always had a passion for the mind and dedicated her life to studying and analyzing how the mind works, starting with her BA in psychology. Once she met her now-husband Jason Alan, a lifelong magician, her life flipped and that passion for the mind turned into a passion in tricking other’s minds - through magic.

Evgenia Fotiou, assistant professor of anthropology, was recently featured in Yoga Journal for her expertise on indigenous religions, healing practices and cultural appropriation.

This fall, ���Ĵ�ý’s College of Business Administration will begin offering direct admission to its Master of Business Administration (MBA) program to qualifying, incoming freshmen and students transferring into business programs.

A scholarship has been established to honor the life and legacy of E. Timothy (Tim) Moore, Associate Dean Emeritus in ���Ĵ�ý’s College of Arts and Sciences and Associate Professor Emeritus in the Department of Pan-African Studies.

Veterinary technology students at ���Ĵ�ý Trumbull recently earned the highest three-year average passage rate in Ohio on the Veterinary Technician National Exam administered by the American Association Of Veterinary State Boards.

���Ĵ�ý today is launching a national search for the university’s next leader of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. A 12-member search committee led by Lamar R. Hylton, Ph.D., vice president for student affairs, has been appointed to recruit and screen highly qualified candidates for the director of athletics position.

“The pessimistic estimate is that by 2050, antibiotics could be obsolete,'' said Songping Huang, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the College of Arts and Sciences. Huang and his ���Ĵ�ý team, including Min-Ho Kim, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, are working on closing that chasm with the development of new antimicrobials. 

Honors College alumna Jessica Maisano, ’94, B.A., started her career at ���Ĵ�ý as a fashion merchandising student before realizing her passion for dinosaurs and dirt was a viable career option. One ���Ĵ�ý professor would show Maisano that childhood dreams are actually within reach.

The Hearst Journalism Awards — widely known as the Pulitzer Prizes of Collegiate Journalism — recently recognized ���Ĵ�ý senior Gianna DaPra in the nation’s top 10 for television features.

The gap between the number of trained cybersecurity professionals and the number of available positions has increased in the past few years. To help bridge the gap, ���Ĵ�ý’s College of Applied and Technical Studies will be offering an associate degree in cybersecurity starting fall 2021.

Ryan Claassen, professor of political science at ���Ĵ�ý, conducted research during the fall semester finding that American voters think politicians view situations differently depending on party affiliation. Claassen’s research was recently featured in an article from the Record-Courier. 

���Ĵ�ý at Salem has made its next steps in the university’s Energy Master Plan by installing sustainable, cost effective solar panels. A recent story by Salem News detailed the project’s importance and the progress made so far by the Salem and East Liverpool campuses.

U.S. News & World Report has named four ���Ĵ�ý programs as U.S. News Best Online Programs for 2021. ���Ĵ�ý is recognized in the Best Online Master’s in Nursing Programs, Best Online MBA Programs, Best Online MBA – Business Analytics Programs and Best Online Graduate Education Programs rankings.

���Ĵ�ý’s Senior Guest program provides an opportunity for senior citizens to get back in the classroom - for free. Similar programs are available across the state, thanks to a 1999 Ohio revised code that says every public university in Ohio must allow those 60 years and older who have lived in the state for at least one year to enroll in courses tuition free.

���Ĵ�ý President Todd Diacon delivered the opening remarks during the university's virtual ceremony to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 

Since 2015, Bournemouth University’s Center for Health and Media Research has conducted an election analysis, including rapid responses and contributions from several leading U.S. and international academics, which, this year, includes four from ���Ĵ�ý.

���Ĵ�ý will hold its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, to celebrate King’s life and legacy. Serving as this year’s keynote speaker is CNN political analyst and former South Carolina state Rep. Bakari Sellers. The virtual program is free and open to the public.
